Chelsea Clinton Leaving NBC News, Focus on Clinton Foundation, Family - Us Weekly

As one chapter ends, another begins. Chelsea Clinton announced on Friday, Aug. 29, that she had decided to leave her job at NBC News after three years to focus on other work and to prepare for motherhood. In a message posted to Facebook, the pregnant former First Daughter, 34, said she was moving on but is grateful for the opportunities she was given as a special correspondent.

“When I joined the NBC family in 2011, I had long respected NBC”s commitment to telling the stories of “ordinary people doing extraordinary things,”” she wrote in her post, adding that she was proud to “continue this important legacy.”

That said, she has a legacy of her own to worry about — in the form of a baby due later this year. “To continue focusing on my work at the Clinton Foundation and as Marc and I look forward to welcoming our first child, I have decided to leave my position as an NBC Special Correspondent,” she explained.

She went on to cite some of the most memorable stories she”d reported, including pieces on Principal Peggy Candelaria, who runs a “Homework Diner” for kids and their families, and on Carlos “Coach Khali” Sweeney, who provides tutoring and boxing instruction for kids in Detroit. “I will always be inspired by their and others” collective passion, courage, ingenuity, and perseverance,” the daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton wrote.

“It”s been a privilege to be part of the NBC family,” she continued. “I admire the work and dedication that their reporters, producers, crews, editors, and studio teams deliver every day, particularly as I personally experienced through the stewardship of Brian Williams at Nightly News and Rock Center…While my role with NBC News may be coming to an end, I look forward to working with the NBC family well into the future.”

Clinton first joined NBC News back in 2011. She announced her pregnancy back in April, at the Girls: A No Ceilings Conversation event in New York City.
