Having an intense, irrational fear or sense of impending doom only begins to describe the illnesses known as Anxiety disorders. Some of the symptoms you may feel include:

o You feel your heart start to pound.

o You begin to feel dizzy or faint.

o You feel nausea or smothering sensations.

o You feel tingling or numbness.

o You start to feel pressure in your chest.

o You experience shortness of breath.

o You think you may be dying or having a heart attack.

o You think you may be going crazy.

According to NIMH, “Anxiety Disorders affect about 40 million American adults age 18 years and older (about 18%) in a given year… Unlike the relatively mild, brief anxiety caused by a stressful event (such as speaking in public or a first date), anxiety disorders last at least 6 months and can get worse if they are not treated.” Source: http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/anxiety.cfm

Keep in mind, that doesn’t include all the children and adolescents who also develop this disorder early in life. Many go untreated simply because their symptoms are written off as “growing pains”. You may be surprised to know that scientists believe there may be a genetic link to these symptoms: “The tendency to develop panic attacks appears to be inherited.” Source: http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/anxiety.cfm#3.

It’s common for people with Anxiety Disorders to have other problems like Depression, Substance Abuse, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Agoraphobia and other mental or physical illnesses. Many times, these other illnesses need to be treated first, before people will respond to any treatment for Anxiety Disorder.

I’ve worked with people that have struggled with these symptoms. Some have actually had to quit working because they could not cope with the stresses of their attacks at the workplace. Others have managed to deal with them without becoming house-bound, but still have “episodes”. A few even told me they have them while they were sleeping, and woke up with all the symptoms described above.

I’ve had my own challenges with these symptoms, and I can tell you that if you have them, too, you’re NOT going crazy. While some of my friends INSIST I am crazy, it has nothing to do with anxiety or panic attack symptoms! I’ve also learned some effective ways to deal with this, and I encourage you to visit my blog for more information, tips and methods for rising above the symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks.

You can learn how to successfully deal with anxiety and panic attack symptoms. You dont have to suffer needlessly!

The cardiovascular exercises consist of extreme strenuous routines, which are aimed to get your heart pumping hard to burn calories and bust out stress from your system. Some common cardiovascular exercises are aerobics, hard running, elliptical machine exercises, walking briskly, and stair stepping and cycling among others. If you are worried about your knees, you could choose the treadmill and/or the elliptical machine, which is not as harsh on the joints, but just as effective.

For best effect, the cardiovascular exercises need to be performed in the morning before your breakfast. Because of the strenuous nature of the exercise, there would a flood of endorphins into your blood, which would mean you would stay happy and positively energized throughout the day. What better way to fight anxiety than this?

The cardios as these exercises are otherwise known increase your metabolic rate and burn a huge number of calories while side by side releases stress from your system. With stress out, there is little or no scope for anxiety attacks. Gradually you will find that the symptoms of anxiety have abated and after a while completely disappear. This is an exceptional antidote for the time when you feel an anxiety attack building up within you. A couple of days with cardiovascular exercises, and your anxiety attack will be long forgotten.

Remember, never to do cardios after food or before bedtime. These exercises are meant to wake your system up and eliminate fatigue from the body. Therefore, these are best done in the morning on an empty stomach as mentioned earlier.

When you consider that stress is the root-cause of most of the modern day diseases including anxiety and depression, exercise is the universal antidote. The Holy Bible said that in order to live a long and good life, man (to be read as human beings) would need to have the sweat from his brow drop on his feet. In other words, the Good Book says that human beings need to stay active not only mentally, but also physically. Modern medical science advocates the same thing.

We do not have much to do physically today thanks to the advancement in technology. However, we are forewarned that without exercise our bodies would fall into a condition of irreparable damage.

Use exercises to fight dissolve stress and control anxiety and depression. The day you allow exercise in your life, anxiety would take your leave.

In today’s fast paced environment, many people are under a lot of stress. Women are even more susceptible to the strains of everyday life. Some are single mothers that work full time jobs and then come home and care for their baby. They are over worked, underpaid and under extreme stress.

Many women go to their family doctors complaining about headaches, lack of sleep and mood swings. The doctor will calmly explain to them that they have stress problems, and to take a few days off, and then prescribe them a drug to alleviate the symptoms.

While the drugs may work in the short term, it doesn’t treat the root problems. When you stop taking the drug, the stress will still be present. And who has the time to put their feet up and relax, especially if you have a toddler causing mayhem at home?

So what are the alternatives?

Well there are many and we will explore a few of them in this article, but the first thing you have to do is figure out the cause of your stress. Stress can be caused by many things. What is stressful to one person can be joyful for the next. For instance, speaking in public can cause some people a lot of anxiety, but to some it is a joy.

Once you have located the reasons for your stress try to think of ways to alleviate it. Here are some more helpful tricks and tips for managing stress levels without the use of drugs.

Take a Deep Breath: The reason why stress causes headaches in a lot of cases is because when a person is under significant stress they will tend to breath shallowly, or hold their breath without even realizing it. Your muscles then get a lack of oxygen and you cramp up in such places like your neck and abdomen and you get a headache. Sometimes it just makes you feel uptight.

If you feel a headache coming on, or you feel uptight, stop and check your breathing. Take a few minutes to rest and take deep breaths through your nose and out through your mouth.

Talk to People: Being lonely is a terrible thing, and this can cause stress all by itself. Try joining a club or something you enjoy that will connect you to other people. Sometimes just talking and having fun can do wonders for your stress problems.

Regular Exercise: It has been scientifically proven that exercise helps relieve stress. Try joining a gym, or just going for a walk each night. You will boost your energy level making it easier to cope with the stress of daily life.

Managing Time: Nothing causes stress like being late for an appointment. Avoid this unnecessary stress by planning your day. Insure that you have enough time to get to all of your appointments. Maybe invest in a day planner.

Body Break: Your mind and body are one. Make sure that you eat proper nutritious meals, and sleep well at night. Avoid excess sugar and caffeine. These foods will give you a temporary high, but will cause you to crash later. A body that is properly maintained will be better able to cope with stress.

Avoid The Use of Illegal Drugs: Many people turn to alcohol and drugs to relieve their stress. While it may seem that these things are helping with your stress they are really harming you. Not only are they wrecking your body, but they are only a temporary fix. When you wake up in the morning, the problem that you were trying to escape will still be there.

Change Your Surroundings: Make sure that you are as comfortable as possible. If your chair at work is causing your back to hurt, change it. If your bed is causing backache and lack of sleep, change it. Why put your mind and body under stress that can be easily avoided.

Go to Your Happy Place: Try daydreaming for a minute if you feel stressed out. Imagine a sunny beach, or a quiet cottage. Imagine the tastes and sounds. A few minutes of imagined vacation can do wonders for your mental outlook, and relieve stress.

These are just a few techniques that will help you cope with your stress levels. Try concentrating on the positive aspects of your life, and not the negative. Without some stress life would be boring, but too much of anything can kill you.

Learning methods of stress elimination is a vital skill in the modern world. After all, there is no way to get away from stress these days, thanks to work, life, family, the economy, the state of the world, global warming, and an overabundance of people who are reminding you constantly about all of these. Not to mention the fact that you are stressed about everything and you know that stress can cause major health problems, so you are stressed about your own stress! Thus, you need some stress elimination strategies before you worry yourself silly.

The first stress elimination method is simply that of getting away. If you are feeling the heat from stress, you find yourself anxious, and you cannot concentrate, it is time for a break. That means that, if you are at work, get up from your desk and take a walk around. If you are at home, take a walk around the block. If homework is getting you stressed, go make a sandwich. Just walk away and take a break and come back in about five minutes.

As a matter of fact, when you are concentrating on something, you should breaks anyway in order to let your mind rest. After all, when you exercise your body, you take breaks to let it recover. Why should your mind be any different. By simply stretching in your seat every 15 minutes or so, then getting up and walking around for a couple of minutes every hour, you can ensure that your brain will stay sharp and stay focused. However, if you do not take these breaks, your mind will start wandering and you will find that you are stressed out because you cannot concentrate. Of course, you cannot concentrate because you are trying to force yourself to concentrate rather than giving yourself a quick break that would help you do that very thing.

However, sometimes it takes more than just a few minutes of walking to get rid of stress. After all, life is stressful in itself and you need to get away from it every once in a while. Thus, part of your stress elimination strategy should include some vacations. By getting away for a week or so every year, you can alleviate stress and prevent it from appearing very often. The simple act of being someplace else where you don’t have to worry about anything other than relaxing will help you immeasurably and it will allow you to keep stress away. Just leave it all behind for a while and you will be able to deal with it better when you get back.

Another good method for stress elimination is through exercise. It has been shown that people who are fit tend to deal with stress much more effectively than people who are not, so it is necessary to get out to the gym every so often. Or, if you don’t feel like going to the gym, you can do a few things from your home, such as running, walking or biking. Also, one very effective way to stay fit is to go out to your local swimming pool and get a few laps in. Swimming is not only a very good way to exercise your entire body, it is also a very low-impact method of exercise that does not strain the joints as much as something like running. Just remember to do something that will keep you in shape.

Also, yoga is a very popular way for people to stay fit when they do not enjoy exercising in such standard ways. In itself, yoga is a very effective method for relaxation and teachers often put a great deal of emphasis on relaxing while going through the various poses of yoga. Thus, you can learn methods of relaxation, stay fit, stay limber, and even have fun doing it. Likewise, studying martial arts such as karate, ju jitsu, judo, or even the relaxing forms of tai chi can provide substantial health benefits that will help you on the road toward stress elimination.

Finally, another good method for stress elimination is through meditation. Not only can you learn to eliminate stress generally, there are some methods of meditation that can be performed at a moment’s notice. Just by sitting down, closing your eyes, and concentrating on taking deep breaths, you can push all that stress out of your body and ease your mind of all its concerns. In fact, simply meditating in this manner for about a minute can ease your stress levels almost instantly by clearing your mind of all its concerns and allowing it to start out fresh. In fact, with a little practice, you can meditate for a short period of time and feel as refreshed as though you just took a nap.

Stress elimination is a vital skill for people who want to stay healthy, stay productive, and keep their minds sharp. Though some of the methods take some practice and take some time to master, a little effort and a little dedication can go a long way. So learn a few methods, figure out what is right for you, and stress elimination will be possible for you now and in the future.

Stress Management Tips:

Here is what I have included in this article to help you.

* How can you manage stress?

* How often should you manage Stress?

The amount of lives that are torn apart by stress in their everyday life is phenomenal. People lose their temper, their family life is in turmoil. Their health is suffering etc… If people would only learn to relieve stress on a daily basis instead of letting it build up.

If you are someone suffering from the effects caused by stress then read on and apply the stress management tips. I wrote this article to help folks just like you know how to deal with stress and anxiety in everyday life. It has helped a lot of people be more relaxed and enjoy their lives more.

Here are 2 of The Most Effective Ways to Relieve Stress.

1. How can I use stress management to reduce stress? The best way to manage and reduce stress is by taking frequent breaks when working on activities that are intense. Start exercising on a daily basis this works really great for relieving stress that builds up throughout the day. Spend some time doing your favorite hobbies or activities. Also spend time with others who make you laugh and really enjoy yourself. You can take daily walks to your favorite areas.

Anxiety disorder, panic attacks & depression are a sign that something is wrong. Something needs to be amended in your life.

It could be your home environment, your work environment, relationships or an illness causing your anxiety, panic attacks & depression. Or even more likely a combination of several things in your life.

Either way, your body is screaming for a change and it’s not always so simple that you change these things all in a day, nor would I recommend you make such massive changes in just one day

However, if you are having one of those days, where you feel that if something doesn’t change, if something different doesn’t happen you’re just going to explode… There are other little simple changes you can make to give you some relief.

This is what I used to do (and sometimes still do if I feel like I am stuck in a rut and feeling fed up with everything going on around me and in my life).

Make subtle changes for that day!

I liked to re-arrange my furniture. This way, I felt there was a change in my life, I could see it! And everything didn’t feel so much the same anymore.

I spend a lot of time in my lounge room… so I would come up with an action plan of where I could move the couches, the tv, book cases, stereo and make it look very different!

In affect, I felt like things were now somewhat different and this gave me some relief.

Try this on the area or room you spend a lot of time in. Whether it’s your office, your bedroom, lounge room, the backyard… make a simple change.

Although this is just a temporary fix on your emotional state, it buys you the time you need to prepare for the bigger changes in your life.

Understanding Stress

Stress has been called “the invisible disease”. It is a disease that may affect you, your organization, and any of the people in it, so you cannot afford to ignore it.

1) What is Stress?

On occasions, all of us experience stress. Beneficial stress can help drive a few of us to become Olympic champions, but harmful stress can drive others to despair. A force as powerful as that should always be handled with respect.

A) The Definition Of Stress

Stress in individuals is defined as any interference that disturbs a person’s healthy mental and physical well-being. It occurs when the body is required to perform beyond its normal range of capabilities. The results of stress are harmful to individuals, families, society, and organizations, which can suffer form, “organizational stress”.

Note:

Learn how to spot your stress warning signals, and then act on them.

B) Its Effects On Society

The social costs of stress are already high-and are increasing steadily. Society bears the cost of public services such as healthcare for those made ill by stress, pension for early retirement brought on by stress, and disability benefits for accidents occurring because of stress. In addition to this, stress often makes people irritable, and this affects the overall quality of everyone’s lives.

Note:

Do not be afraid to talk about situations that you find stressful.

C) Its Effects On Companies

Stress costs industry over $150 billion a year in the US alone – through absenteeism and reduced levels of performance by those who are physically present but mentally absent. In the UK , as much as 60% per cent of all absenteeism is believed to be because of stress related disorders. Anything that can reduce the damaging effects of stress makes workers happier and companies richer.

Note:

Take a stroll when you are stressed – it can help restore your perspective.

D) Its effects On The Body

When the human body is placed under physical or psychological stress, it increases the production of certain hormones, such as adrenaline and cortical. These hormones produce marked changes in the heart rate, blood pressure levels, metabolism, and physical activity. Although this physical reaction will help you to function more effectively when you in pressure for short periods of time, it can be extremely damaging to the body in the long-term.

Everyone experiences stress at some point in their life. In fact, stress is a natural part of life.

Your ability to identify stress, manage it, cope with it and reduce it where possible can have a dramatic impact on your life and on the lives of those around you. How well you do these things will ultimately determine if this impact is for the better or for the worse.

Types of Stress

There are two major types of stress, good stress (eustress) and bad stress (distress).

Eustress is the positive tension that we experience when we get a job promotion, purchase a new home, go on holidays or have a baby. This type of stress can be helpful to us because it can provide motivate and other essential things to help us grow as individuals.

Distress is negative tension caused by things like increased work demands, running late for an appointment, financial difficulties or experiencing sickness in the family. Because stress is cumulative (it builds up in our body), too much distress over a long period of time can be very bad for us and may lead to unhappiness, serious illness, and even death.

Identifying Your Stressors.

Stress affects us all differently. Understanding what causes you stress is critical if you want to reduce its negative impacts on your life. To help you identify your stressors, ask yourself these questions:

o	What is stressful to me?

o	How does stress affect me?

o	When am I most vulnerable to stress?

Once you understand the stresses in your life and how and when they affect you most is the first step to minimizing bad stress and negative impact on your life. Remember this old saying, ‘once you have defined the problem, you are half way to finding a solution’.

Managing and Coping with Stress.

Once you’ve identified your stressors there are many things you can do to help you cope better and reduce its negative impacts. Here are just a few examples:

o	Improve your time management skills

o	Eat a healthier diet

o	Start an exercise program

o	Create some eustress in your life

o	Use relaxation techniques

The best ways to relax.

Relaxing is one of the easiest and best ways to cope with stress and there are many different ways to achieve a relaxed state. Most relaxation techniques are simple, inexpensive or free, can be performed anywhere at anytime, and don’t need to take up a lot of time.

Here are some of the best relaxation techniques we know:

Deep Breathing

Stretching

Meditation

Tai Chi

Yoga

Massage

Prayer

Visualization

Progressive Relaxation

Exercise

Reducing Stress in your life

It is difficult to reduce your stress levels if you haven’t identified the major causes of stress in your life. Once you’ve identified the causes, you can devise an action plan to reduce the stresses you experience.

If work is a main cause of stress for example, speak to your boss about ways to ease your workload or find a new job. If being around certain people causes you stress, make plans to avoid them as much as possible. If lack of time or money is a major stressor for you, attend a course on time or money management, keep a daily and money diary or start to plan your time and budget.

Coping well with stress is a three-pronged process. First, identify the stressors in your life by asking yourself questions and taking note of how you respond to the various pressures of life. Next, reduce the amount of stress that has accumulated in your body by employing one or more of the many relaxation techniques available to you. Finally, try to remove the major stressors in your life where you can.
